Planter Chandelier

Tools and Materials

  • Chandelier
  • Planters
  • Spray glue
  • Glue
  • Plants and soil
  • A sturdy hook

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

The key is to start with a suitable chandelier. I had an old one lying around at home that was perfect. The color doesn’t matter, as you are going to paint it anyway. I then looked for a set of planters that were the right size and shape. I needed six to fill my planter chandelier, but you may need more or less of them depending upon the size and style of chandelier that you use.

Step 2: Paint the Pots and Chandelier

I used spray paint to give both the pots and the chandelier a clean new look. You could make them different colors if you like, but I preferred the idea of just one tone for the whole planter chandelier. Remember to give them time to dry before you move on to the next step.

Step 3: Attach the Pots to the Chandelier

This is the step in which you glue the pots to the chandelier. You should take a moment to ensure that you choose the places to put the planters, although in most cases it will probably be obvious. Give the glue enough time to dry and then you are ready to add the plants to the pots.

Step 4: Fill with Dirt and Plants

This is where you get to see the end result of your work on this DIY garden decor. I recommend using good-quality soil for plants and partially filling the pots with them. After adding a few plants with pretty flowers, the whole thing looked a world away from the basic objects I had started out with.

Step 5: Hang

Your new planter chandelier is now ready for you to put it in the perfect spot. I chose to hang it from a study hook near the corner of my porch. The whole thing will probably be quite heavy, so you need a strong hook to hang it from. Secure it tightly into a wooden beam or something else that is sturdy enough to support it.

Hang

You are sure to love the results if you give this project a try. It offers a very simple way of adding some life to your property by putting a few of your favorite types of plant into an eye-catching presentation. If you haven’t yet been able to work out how to liven up a porch or some other area, this could be the perfect solution. Take a look at a few of the different places where you might want to hang this.

A Pitcher Light Planter Adds a Special Touch to the Garden

Is your garden rather dull and uninspiring at the moment? With the help of some creative DIY garden decor ideas, you can make it far more interesting to look at. This project for pitcher light planters gives you an easy way to make your home more visually attractive. It is something that anyone can try, without the need for any special DIY skills or tools.

Pitcher Light Planter

Tools and Materials

  • Fairy lights
  • Plants and soil
  • Metal pitcher
  • Bird bath
  • Metal rod

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

There are a few different things needed here, but none of them are particularly expensive or hard to get hold of. I already had everything that I needed at home, so I could get started right away. The one point to bear in mind here is that the sizes of the planter and pitcher need to work well together. You don’t want a pitcher that looks too small or too big for the overall look.

Gather Your Materials

Step 2: Attach Lights to Pitcher

Fitting the fairy lights to your pitcher should be a very easy part of this project. I just put part of them inside the pitcher and taped them to the inside. It is important that you leave a long string of lights hanging out, as this adds to the visual appeal by cascading down onto the plants.

Attach Lights to Pitcher

Step 3: Fill the Bird Bath with Soil and Plants

This is when I transformed the bird bath into a pretty planter. It doesn’t have to be particularly deep to do this, as you can keep the plants in their plastic bags. You just need to be able to surround them with enough soil so that the bags can be seen. I opted for a lot of plant with nice flowers, but you could also just put one or two bigger plants in the middle if you prefer.

Step 4: Insert Wire and Attach the Pitcher

By now, you have a great-looking planter, but there is still some extra fun and personality that we can add to it. I did this by sticking a metal rod into the soil and then hanging the pitcher from it. You will want the pitcher at just the right height for the lights to make the maximum impact. It is worth trying with a few different wires or rods to see which one is the right size and is also sturdy enough.

Step 5: Place Lights and Enjoy

Everything is now ready, so that the last step is to just arrange the lights. I tried a few different approaches before settling on a look that I really like. I finished off the presentation by firmly securing the end of the lights into the planter’s soil. It was then just a matter of settling back and enjoying the way that it lit up my garden.

Place Lights and Enjoy

This is one of the best DIY garden decor ideas that I have seen. It is great fun to carry out and looks fantastic. I used it to brighten up a part of my garden that was a bit empty and unloved. If you have a spot that you haven’t found a way of filling then this is a smart way of doing so that will give you a lot of pleasure.

Create a Stacked Potted Planter That Looks Fabulous

Do you love plants but aren’t sure how to how to add more of them to your outdoor space? This garden decor crafts DIY idea lets you do exactly that. You will discover how to make the sort of center-piece that turns your garden into a far more interesting place to spend some time.

Stacked Potted Planter

Tools and Materials

  • Plant pots
  • Spray paint
  • Metal rod
  • Soil
  • Plants
  • Glue
  • Small ornamental birdhouse

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

I used four flower pots for this job. The bottom one has to be the biggest, and the others are all of the same size as each other. Don’t worry about the color, as you will be painting them anyway. For the finishing touch on the top, I added a bird feeder in the shape of a house. This gave it a whimsical touch, but you could any other kind of finishing touch you like the look of.

Gather Your Materials

Step 2: Paint the Pots

You may be happy to work with the color of flower pots that you already have. However, I decided to paint mine, to make them stand out and also to get a uniform look. This is easily done with spray paint, although you need to remember to paint the inside of them, at least the upper part that will be visible above the soil level.

Paint the Pots

Step 3: Fill with Soil

The largest plant pot can be filled with soil first of all. I used a potting mix that I was confident would be good for my plants. I added the soil to the rest of the pots after completing the first one, as this is easier than filling them all with soil after slotting them into position.

Fill with Soil

Step 4: Insert a Pole

My next step was to insert a long pole into the soil in my bottom pot. This can of be any material, but it needs to be long enough to fit on all of your flower pots as well as sturdy enough to support them. If it is too short, you might not fit on as many pots as you would like to.

Insert a Pole

Step 5: Place More Pots and Glue to Stabilize

The rest of the flower pots can then be slid onto the pole, using the drainage holes at the bottom rather than having to drill new holes. I carefully chose the position of each pot before applying some glue to the overlaps for extra stability.

Place More Pots and Glue to Stabilize

Step 6: Add Plants and a Birdhouse

With the pots all neatly stacked up, I could then add some pretty plants to each of them. Something was still missing, so I slid a cute little birdhouse onto the very top of the pole. It was now ready for me to enjoy and for other people to case admiring glances at.

Add a Birdhouse

You will get a far more colorful and interesting garden if you follow the steps in this project. It is incredibly rewarding to see how good it looks once finished. The fact that it is so easy to carry out makes this one of the best garden decor crafts DIY projects for someone who is just starting out.
