Vintage-Looking Farmhouse Wallpaper Made With Wall Stencils

You’re going to want to start with a blank canvas and what’s better than a big white wall?! Our first step is to create a textured appearance as a base coat before we begin stenciling. Pour Behr’s “Bamboo Shoot” paint in a flat latex finish onto a paper plate. Then take a microfiber rag a scrunch it real tight. Dip the microfiber rag into the paint and offload just enough onto a paper towel so the rag is still lightly covered with paint.

Now blot it onto your wall creating a textured looking basecoat. Using this rag technique is a quick and inexpensive way to paint your wall like a faux finisher! 

For this wall, we are going to be using the Jacobean Allover Wall Stencil. Apply repositionable spray adhesive to the back of your wall stencil before you begin. This will reduce your chances of any paint seepage that might occur under the stencil.  Attach a Clip-On-Stencil Level to the bottom of your floral wall stencil to make sure that it hangs straight.

Mix Raw Umber acrylic paint and Black acrylic paint to create a dark chocolate brown color. Take a ¾” Professional Stencil Brush and gently dab your paint in random sections on the stencil. Now, take a 4” Dense Foam Roller and lightly roll Benjamin Moore’s ‘Bermuda Turquoise” over the entire wall stencil. Blend the blue and dark brown really well. 

We want to give our stenciled accent wall a subtle vintage feel. We took a 2” Dense Foam Roller and rolled over the stencil with Bamboo Shoot lightly in some areas.

Then blend it with the Bermuda Turquoise with your dense foam rollers. It's okay to use the same roller when blending. I personally liked this technique more than the others because it tones down the turquoise color and the stencil pattern looks a bit smoother.

Once the paint dries after about two minutes, realign the stencil with the previously painted registration marks and repeat!
