Typically, we use shoes every day and if you have a big family or a lot of shoes, you need to have them neatly organized. If your shoes are all over the place and you want them organized, I’ll show you how to build a DIY shoe rack bench that will solve this problem. Not only it keeps your shoes organized, it’s a good seating bench for your entryway to sit and put your shoes on. And the best of all it costs only $35 of material to make it. This is a great and inexpensive DIY project to try for your home.

Tools for this project

Drill

• Kreg Jig

• Miter Saw

• Tape Measure

• Pipe Clamps

Material List

• 2x6x8' (x5)

• 4x4x8" (x1)

• 2 1/2" Pocket Hole Screws

• 2 1/2" Wood Screws

• Wood Glue

Step-1 Cut all Pieces for Shoe Rack Bench

First, cut all 2x6 pieces as shown on the cut list. Notice that there are 3 sets of boards for each dimension. Also, cut one 4x4 piece to 8” in length.

Step-2 Drill Pocket Holes Per Cut List

Adjust your Kreg Jig for 1 ½” board and drill pocket holes as shown on the cut list. Make sure to drill pocket holes on a 4x4 piece as well.

Step-3 Sand all Boards

Using a random rotating sander, sand all of the pieces. It makes the job much easier to sand the board now than if everything is assembled.

Step-4 Attach Shoe Rack Boards Together

Find and arrange the matching boards on a flat surface with pocket holes facing up. Apply wood glue between the boards. Clamp the boards to prevent them from shifting. Then attach the boards together using 2 1/2" Pocket Hole Screws.

Step-5 Stain and Paint All Sections

At this step, it’s a good idea to stain and paint the boards before attaching the sections together. First, use pre-stain to prevent blotching. Then, apply stain with a brush and wipe off dry using a shop paper towel. After staining the wood, take a brush and dip the tip of the brush into the white paint. Then take that brush and wipe off any running paint with a shop paper towel. Swipe the brush across the boards applying very little pressure. Repeat the process until reached the desired look.

Step-6 Assemble Sides of the Bench

After staining and painting, take the top section of the shoe rack bench and place it on the ground upside down. Then take the 7 ½” section and 18 ½” section and attach them on each side using 2 1/2" Pocket Hole Screws.

Step-7 Assemble Middle Section of Entryway Shoe Rack

Now take the middle 33” long section and place it on the ground upside down. Then attach the 8” section using 2 1/2" Pocket Hole Screws.

Step-8 Temporary Pieces

Go back to the top section and place the temporary 7 ½” block on the boards as shown on a picture. This will be used temporarily to hold the middle section.

Step-9 Attach Shoe Rack Middle Section

Then take the middle section (assembled in step 7) and place it over the temporary scrap blocks. Attach the middle section using  2 1/2" Wood Screws. Next place 8” long 4x4 board about 11” from the edge and attach it using 2 1/2" Pocket Hole Screws.

Step-10 Attach Bottom Section

Finally, take the last bottom section and attach it using 2 1/2" Wood Screws and 2 1/2" Pocket Hole Screws on the end. You’re done.

This is an amazing bench. I really love the design and the color. What are the stain and paint colors? I hope I wasn't so excited about this that I overlooked the color. Lol. I can't wait to make this. Thanks for posting.
