The journey of the fixer upper my son purchased is still a work in progress. Decorating the house to create a contemporary look without breaking the bank was the goal set. This post is to show you how I found thrifted finds to warm the home with a minimalist feel but yet maximize on style.

After the carpet was pulled up and house was painted with grey walls with black trim. The black trim made the home appear more modern. New laminate flooring was installed. Next came decorating. I found all the furniture and decor items at several different stores, such as Restore Habitat, Goodwill, and other local thrift stores.

This is the living room after the carpet was pulled up.

The walls are light grey with black trim.

The tan loveseat was purchased at Goodwill and the gray sofa was purchased at a thrift store. The TV was purchased using OfferUp. The curtain rods and levelor blinds were purchased at thrift stores. The matching wood lamps were purchased at Goodwill and all the tables were from thrift stores. The ceiling fan was a Lowes discounted floor model.

The fabric for the window treatments was $2.00/yard. The total cost to put the look for this room together was under $300

The dining room was under$250

The fabric for the curtains was $4.00/yd. All the pieces in here were thrifted from various thrift stores. The home is completely decorated on a dime. There are more decor pictures on the blog

You mentioned it was a block home. Did you mean it is a concrete block home? I have one and have lots of trouble hanging anything on the walls. I have curtains that I want to hang but was told that they wouldn't stay up with the hardware that came with the Curtin rod. How did you hang your beautiful things if it is a cement block home?
