I'm so excited to be partnering with Lamps Plus today to decorate for the holidays and I knew that a garland would be the perfect way to add a creative way to add a little Christmas to my office.

The most amazing thing?

I found the supplies for this project hidden in the Christmas tubs in my attic. If you have a discarded dollar store garland tucked away---this is the time to bring it out and transform it into something amazing. Here's the step-by-step on how to do it.

Step 1: Find a simple dollar store garland

You can pull one out of your Christmas tub from 47 Christmases ago, or you can find one very inexpensively at your local dollar store.

Take it out and stretch it out and fluff it slightly.

Step 2: Cut florist wire

You'll want to cut florist wire into simple 6" strips of wire as shown.

For this project, you'll need approximately 25-30 pieces of cut wire.

Step 3: Prepare your picks

You can use discarded picks in your Christmas tubs, too.

Or, you can find picks like these at your local craft store. You want to select a variety of picks in different sizes and colors. I'm using four for this project including an evergreen pick, a pinecone pick, a boxwood pick and a eucalyptus pick.

Step 4: Wire your garland

Now you are ready to wire your garland.

Simply choose a pick and place it on top of the garland as shown.

Step 5: Wire the pick to the branch

Using the piece of florist wire, wrap the pick to the branch and twist.

You'll want to twist tightly to ensure the pick is properly adhered to the branch.

Either cut the ends or tuck into the branches.

Step 6: Continue wiring picks

Change up your picks in different textures and colors and continue wiring them to the branch. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have completely covered the entire dollar store garland.

Make sure all the picks are attached securely to the garland and then fluff the garland with the picks.

Step 7: Hang up your garland

This is an asymmetric way to hang up a garland over a mirror. I love the depth and texture that this mirror adds to the space. This amazing distressed mirror and the gourd lamp are both from Lamps Plus.

I simply draped the mirror over it and tucked in a wood ball garland to layer two different garlands in place.

Here are a few other suggestions on places to hang your garland:

drape it over a mantel

add it to a bookcase

place it on your table as a centerpiece

hang it up on a staircase

I hope you enjoyed this simple garland tutorial.

How did you drape the mirror over it?

I love the little tree made of snowflakes and stars. Did you make it, and is there a how-to for that? Also – I, too, had a silly moment trying to imagine draping a mirror over a garland instead of the other way around! The enhanced garland looks great, and all made from old stuff – brilliant!
