We had an absolute blast making these melted crayon Christmas ornaments! Its just shavings from old crayons inside a clear fillable round ornament. Add a little blast from the hair dryer and its a lovely bright and cheery tree ornament! We did a red and green combo, primary colours, favorite colors, unicorn colors.... et cetera. Your imagination is the limit icon

BEFORE: Here are the old crayons we used and the clear fillable ornaments.

STEP 1: Use a kitchen grater to create crayon shavings. They all kind of get mixed up, so we chose to wash the grater between preparing the different colour combos. This doesn't have to be fussy!

STEP 2: Take the top off the fillable ornament. Fill it with about 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of shavings. More shavings isn't necessarily better (it will just create a more uniform, less-spotty finish).

STEP 3: Replace the cap. Place the ornament in a container or containment box.

STEP 4: Use a hair dryer to slowly melt the crayon shavings. There are more details on how to do this in the original melted crayon ornament tutorial. Let it cool before touching it.

STEP 5: Check out how your ornament turned out! Attach a bit of ribbon or pretty string to hang it up with. I used plain white fabric ribbon from the craft store, but you could choose anything fun to match the color combo in your melted crayon ornament!

AFTER: Here is the finished ornament! This one was filled with about a tablespoon of red and green shavings. The high volume of shavings made a thick layer of wax that created a rich, consistent colour.

Here's one that had about a teaspoon of red and green shavings (more green than red though). The lower volume of shavings in this one made tiny wax spots inside the ornament instead of covering whole large areas.

Here's a bright and cheery multi-colored melted crayon ornament! This one turned out really well. It had a medium amount of shavings with an emphasis on pink. What color combos will you choose....?

Did you roll it around to get even coverage?

Wonder how this would be if you added glitter to the ornament first then the crayon shavings? Also, you would not able to store in the attic here in the southern US unless it is climate controlled.

I love this project. I want to print how to do it and I cannot find out how to get a copy printed. How do I do this? Should I use glass or plastic ornaments or doesn't it matter? THANKS
