Quick, Easy & Cheap Valentine Garland!

Super easy, super quick, super cheap Valentine Garland -- using ingredients you probably have on hand! Thank you to my friend Ana @fiddleleafinteriors for the inspo (be sure to check out her version on Instagram with roses)!
Here's a close up of the finished project. And here's how to do it:
Mix 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup cornstarch, and 3/4 cups water in a small saucepan until smooth. Add 10 drops of essential oil if desired. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, for about 3-5 minutes. As you stir, scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl.
Once the mixture is very thick, it’ll resemble a dense, sticky lump of dough. Remove from the stove at this point.
Transfer dough to a bowl and let cool at room temperature. It gets cold fairly quickly. Once it is cool, knead into smooth dough. Lightly dust dough with cornstarch and roll it out (or use tortilla press and put dough in between parchment paper, like me -- I was feeling lazy!) to no less than 1/4 inch thick.
Dip cookie cutter into cornstarch, and cut out shapes.
Transfer them to baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Be sure to poke holes for hanging the ornaments with a straw or skewer (not shown in this pic).
Place in 175 degree oven for 1-2 hours, flipping every 20 min., or let air dry in a warm space for a day, flip them over the next day and let them dry until they’re completely set, ideally another day. The longer you wait the better! (See the holes in this pic. Make sure they are large enough for your twine or string to go through.)
Tie your hearts to a piece of rope, string, ribbon, or twine. I also tied ripped pieces of fabric, ribbon scraps, and old lace in between each heart. You could also hang the individual hearts from a tree branch stuck inside a vase, from cabinet knobs, etc.... the possibilities are endless! I like this type of dough because it dries white (many others are off white or yellowish). If you make these, please share a pic!
