SPINDLE CARROT DIY!

If you’ve not been following, You should go back and check out my  Spindle Christmas Tree and my  Heart Spindle Artwork. I’m a little crazy for spindles these days! Now, grab a cup of coffee or tea and let’s get started with the tutorial on “How to Make Spindle Carrots.”
MATERIALS NEEDED TO MAKE THE SPINDLE LEG CARROTS:
  1. Spindles, I had some old ones on hand, but you can purchase them online.
  2. Orange and Brown colored paint – I used Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint in the color Summer Crush and Layered Chocolate. You can purchase the paint at WWW>CreateWithCynthiaShop.com.
  3. Sealer and/ or Wax – I used a Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint in Big Top and then a Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint Dark Wax.
  4. Paint Brush – I used chip brushes.
  5. Greenery – I picked up some Onion Grass from the Dollar Store.
  6. Floral Tape
  7. Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  8. Scissors
  9. Wire Cutters
INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW TO MAKE THE SPINDLE CARROTS:Step one: Gather your spindle legs. I used three short spindle legs and six short wooden dowel sticks and an old table leg. Varying lengths and odd numbers work best. You may need to cut your old table legs to create the perfect size or just purchase spindles online using the links above.
Step two: Paint your spindles.
The body of the spindle should be orange and the top brown.
Remember carrots have brown tops when they come out of the dirt.
Step three: Seal or Wax your paint. You can use a clear wax and then a dark wax. There are many options. The key is to get the darkness into the crevices so the carrots look a little dirty. I wanted my carrots to look like they just came from the ground.
When using Dark Wax, always start with a Clear Wax, then apply the Dark Way; wipe the wax on and wipe the wax off.
Step four: Cut your greener to the correct size. My greenery also had butterflies on it.
You may need to use Wire Cutters. Sometimes Scissors will work.
Step five: Glue the greenery on the top of the spindle.
Step six: You may need to use Floral Tape to hold the glue and greenery in place.
Step six: Enjoy your Spindle Carrots. Decorate with them on your mantle, table, or in a basket.I hope you enjoy this project. It is fairly easy and super fun!Now go out there and Create Something!Cynthia
