DIY Spring Straw Hat Front Door Decor!

Create pretty front door decor with just a few dollar store items and less than 15 minutes!

If you're like me you probably change out your seasonal decor every year. What was 'pretty' last year may not be so this year? Am I right? Well, that usually means additional materials and cost! So this year, to keep both to a minimum, I decided to recycle some flowers I used in one of the spring wreaths I made last year.

Other Materials used:

  • straw hat
  • scarf
  • window clings
  • mod podge
  • glue gun
  • sewing needle
  • thread

To start I removed the pretty pink ribbon that was attached to the hat. I have another idea for that area. For now, I wanted to focus on adding this bright and cheerful scarf I bought for $1! I thought it would be super cute if I attached it to the underside of the hat and let it hang.

I don't sew but I figured I could at least make an attempt if it kept the scarf in place so I grabbed a needle and thread and attached the scarf to the underside of the hat. If you look close you can see a line of thread but it will be covered soon!

Because now it was time to attach the faux flowers I had. I used my glue gun to do this. First I started with some greenery and then began filling in with a mixture of florals.

Once the flowers are attached you could easily be done, but I wanted to add something more. I thought some fun wording would work, but I really didn't have anything I could use on hand. Then I remembered I'd picked up some window clings. I've used them before on projects and they worked perfectly. To attach the wording I just brushed on some mod podge to the back and pressed it into place on my hat brim.

And that's it! This adorable hat decor could be placed anywhere in your home, or welcome friends and family with it hung on your front door!

If you like the bright colorful florals I used for this straw hat you might also like this fun wreath I made last year too! Both cost under $5 to make and took less than 30 minutes to make!

It’s really lovely, may I ask how you hang it on the door ?

What's the white showing at the top and bottom of the hat, is that how you hung it on the door. I saw someone else asked basically the same question but I couldn't find the answer.

Really very cutie! I walk around stores see all the things they sell and they get you around "any type of holiday" you want it right at that moment and it adds up. Especially these days! So reusing I love seeing what people can do. Its amazing....
