How to Turn an Upholstered Stool Into a Plant Stand With a Wooden Top
I love plants. I propagate my house plants so I have ended up with lots and lots of them!

Here is what the stool looked like before. It was old from Target. The cushion was stained and gross.
Trace the top of the stool onto a piece of plywood. Use a saw to cut that square or rectangle out.
Lay out the slats in your design on your plywood. Mark where the edge of the plywood is on each slat so you know where to cut.
Use a saw (I used a miter saw) to cut the slats where you marked them. Repeat this process until you have completed your design.
Use wood glue to attach the slats to the plywood. Once in place, place something like a book on top to help dry together.
Apply stain or paint to your top. I wipe on with a rag then wipe off excess. You can also add a clear coat such as poly to protect the wood from water stains.
I love how this stool turned out! I am obsessed with the herringbone top and think it looks so much more high end than the original.
Use a screwdriver to detach the damaged cushion from the base of the stool.
