This spring will be like most of my springs where I have a garden. But unlike most springtime gardens, we are dealing with Covid 19 and many are self quarantined or state quarantined. It is such a stressful time that I find myself not being able to enjoy doing things that I normally love to do. Normally, I read a lot but with the library closed, I’m finding myself at loose ends. I began making these seed pots and found them to be a relaxing activity. The repetition seems soothing and the fact that you can use ad circulars makes it a budget friendly diy project. I think the video is the best way to do this project.

My sheet of newspaper was 11 by 21 inches.

****There was a comment saying the half sheet of newspaper needed to be square in shape... So, I did a new video that shows a square shape and a half sheet that is more of a rectangle shape and how both ways will work. Here is the link...

Start with a half sheet of newspaper

My sheet of newspaper was 11 by 21 inches.

I begin with a half sheet of newspaper. I used to worry about the colored ink but then I researched it and found out that most if not all use vegetable ink so it is safe for plants.

I take the sheet folded in half, with the fold closest to me and the opening at the top.

Fold in half

I fold the folded half sheet in half for the reference line.

Now fold in half the other direction

Now fold in half the other way so you have intersecting creases creating 4 equal sections. Open up.

Fold bottom corner to middle

I used a sharpie to mark the lines for you to see better.

Fold one bottom corner to middle...

Then the second bottom corner.

Do the same with the second bottom corner.

Then take the top and fold to middle

Take the top and bring it to the middle line. Press down and smooth flat.

And fold down again

Take this folded piece and fold it down again. Smooth that flat.

Flip over

Flip over with the point to your left and fold the bottom up to the center crease line.

Fold the top to the center crease line

Fold the top piece down to the center crease line.

Turn with the point facing up

Turn with the point facing up. Bring the bottom up to the bottom folded piece.

Fold up again

Bring the fold piece and bring it up folding it again.

Tuck this inside behind the two folded triangles

You will bring this piece up and over the folded pieces tucking it inside behind two folded triangles.

This one is best seen in the video. You are creating a small crease that helps the pot snap into shape.

As it pops into shape, help the bottom to lay flat.

Now, it is ready for soil and seeds. When you are ready to transplant, just drop the whole thing in a hole and the newspaper will decompose naturally.

I hope you all have fun making these and find them as relaxing as I did!

Press down to create a flat bottom

And now it is flat.

All done! Ready for potting soil and seeds.

These pots are a perfect place to start planting seeds for your garden.

It will also be a fun activity to pass the days waiting for your seeds to turn into đŸŒ± seedlings!

How do you keep the soil damp without compromising the container? I would love to give these with the plant in as gifts.
