Make a Pretty Cross for Easter
I made this Cross for my Mother In Laws fireplace hearth. It's so pretty, and such a great reminder of the reason for Easter. Don't be afraid to give it a try. It's a good project for a beggining woodworker.
First take your 8 foot 2x4 and cut it into 2 pieces of 3 feet each, and 2 pieces of 1 foot. Put one of the one foot aside you will not need it. Lay the one foot piece across the 3 foot piece. Now take your speed square and draw a line about 6 inches down from the top of the 3 foot board. Take the square and make a mark on the bottom of the two foot board also. You are going to be cutting this small section out, so that the cross piece is flush with the board you are marking,
Cut the pieces that you marked above. Clamp and glue them onto the other 3 foot board. Use the 1 foot cross piece as a spacer and make sure the pieces fit snuggly around it before you clamp. Then clamp and glue on the cross board.
After your glue is completly dry ( I would give it 24 hours) sand the whole thing down. If you have a palm sander you can use it, but a sanding block will also work.

This is what it should look like now.
Now use a hammer and a fence staple to secure one end of the garland to the base. Wrap it around the post. Use another of the staples to secure the other end at the top.
Now it should look like this.
Attach the barbed wire to the base with another Fence Staple. You should wear gloves and eye protection when working with the barbed wire. Wrap it around the post following the lines of the garland. You may need to use the zip ties to hold things in place as you work your way around with the barbed wire. Secure it at the top with a Fence Staple, and then cut off the excess wire.
This was harder than wrapping the wire around the post, be careful. I went through some of the branches on the back with cable ties to attach the wire.
Wrap the lights around the post starting from the back so you can hide the battery pack behind the post.
All that's left is to put the wreath on the cross, and place it somewhere in your home.

Thanks great idea. They can also be used to hide screw heads (Phillips type best) just snip the nail off and use the tiny tip left to hot glue into the screw. Hides perfectly.
