Repurposed Jello Molds Into Fun Flowers
There's nothing I like more than creating flowers out of unusual things, like the repurposed jello molds that I'm using for today's fun and funky project.
Repurposing is all about figuring out how to create something using what you already have, so that was my challenge for this project.
I just figured it out as I went, creatively flying by the seat of my pants.
I started with some vintage aluminum jello molds.
There are so many different kinds, but the thin flexible ones work best for making these flowers.
All I needed to create my flowers was scissors, pliers,and sandpaper.
The thin jello molds that I used were very easy to cut with regular scissors.
I cut down the lines in between the sections to create petals.
If regular scissors don't work for you, you could try wire cutters.
Once the sections were made I flattened them out a bit, and used pliers to turn the corners of the jello mold petals back.
Now it's really starting to look like a flower.
To make the flowers easier to handle I used sandpaper to smooth out the edges of the petals.
I used five slightly different jello molds to make five different flowers.
The temps have been mild here lately so I took my flowers outside and spray painted them in some fresh spring colors.
If you don't have spray paint you could try using craft paint, or even regular latex paint.
I needed something for the centers of my flowers and I found these miniature tart tins in my stash.
They are perfect when spray painted a happy and sunny yellow.
I thought long and hard about what to use for stems and I decided on some fondue forks.
If you don't have fondue forks you could use skewers, rulers, knitting needles, whatever you have that's long and thin.
Even a few straws taped together could work.
I glued my fondue forks onto the backs of my flowers with my glue gun.
And then I glued the yellow centers in place.
I took a walk down to my greenhouse/storage shed to see if I could find something to hold my repurposed jello mold flowers and I found the perfect thing, a metal grater.
I glued the flowers to the inside of the grater and tucked in some spanish moss to finish it off.
These colors are so perfect for spring, happy and cheerful.
Now all I have to do is find a place to hang this.
Some place where I'll see these flowers every day because them make me smile.

I love these! I knew I kept those tiny butter molds for a reason!! Now to hit the thrift store for some jello molds.
