DIY Pallet Wood Cornice Boards

Here’s the cut sheet for the diy pallet wood cornice board project.

We started with the plywood boards for the center and cut a piece of plywood that with a 1″x 1/2″ border around the edges.

You can see it laid out in the diagram.

The goal was to attach the boards to the plywood, frame out with 1″x 2″ boards and hang up.

This is created from standard pallet width boards cut 6" wide.

Start with the center plywood boards that are cut to18″ long and 6″ wide.

Next, attach 10 pieces of pallet wood to the top in rows. You will want to nail these in place.

After these are finished, nail the finished two boards to the larger piece of plywood.

Here's the reverse side of the board so you can see how the two smaller boards were attached.

Simply follow the diagram on step 1 for the measurements of the side boards.

You'll need two boards cut for trim pieces on each side.

(2) 1" x 2" x 18"

and (2) 1" x 2" x 6"

Next, use finish nails to attach the 1″ x 2″ boards to the sides of the plywood boards with pallet wood on top.

After we finished the front—we realized that we needed a way to hang the cornice.

We added in 1″ x 2″ boards to the sides of the cornice.

They wrapped around the edges.

You can see them here in the bottom of the picture.

We found this hardware at the home improvement store.

We attached it to the back and got ready to hang.

To make it easier—we actually moved one to the outside of the cornice board to make it easier to hang.

Hang up the cornice boards with anchors.

Here is the finished cornice board in the space.

I originally planned to stain them, but I love the look of the unfinished wood and how it makes sense with the other rustic elements in the room.

It's such a simple way to add character and personality to your home--starting with your windows.
