Plain wire mesh desk accessories are a staple at office supply stores. You may already have a mesh pencil cup, magazine file, or even trash bin on hand. If so, you can give it a craft touch by embroidering it with yarn! The holes in the mesh make a perfect canvas for all sorts of creative embroidery. I love using yarn in unique ways that doesn't require knitting or crocheting. Don't miss all the rest of my Simple Yarn Craft Ideas!

Desk Accessories Embroidered with Yarn

Plain wire mesh containers are perfect for embroidery! Get creative with the designs you make on them. I am not a professional embroiderer but had fun experimenting with these easy designs.

Supplies for Embroidered Desk Accessories

You'll need:

  • Wire mesh desk accessories (office supply stores have them)
  • Yarn
  • Pointed darning needle
Step 1

Thread the yarn through a darning needle with a pointed end. You'll want to find a needle that has a hole big enough for the yarn but is thin enough to fit through the mesh holes. Pull the yarn through one of the holes and tie a knot to secure.

Step 2

Try out different designs like this zig zag pattern.

Check out how my trash bin turned out with the zig zag pattern!
