Dining or kitchen chairs can take a beating. Here’s how I repaired what I could and painted them giving them new life!

Before

Clean the chair thoroughly.

Sand and smooth rough edges.

Fill deep damaged areas

This is my favorite wood filler!

if your chairs have deep scratches or damage, just fill them. Then sand smooth 24 hours after applying.

*If your chair has split in areas just fill that as well, you may need to sand smooth then repeat the steps*

Paint

Once your repairs are made and your chair is cleaned, it’s time to paint!

I paint the bottoms first!

Bleed through?

If you get some spots that pop up, that’s bleed through. You can prime then paint again (DIY paint has a new primer in clear and can be used as a spit treatment)

*check out my easy bleed through post that is one of my earlier posts.

You Should use at least two coats of paint!

After I sealed all the bleed through, I painted a second coat.

* Wait 24 hours to seal to ensure paint is dry and no addition bleed through pops up.

After

After your paint has dried and no more spots have popped up, you’re ready to seal! I used Big Top Top Coat by DIY paint, but you can use whatever top coat or wax that’s manufactured by the chalk paint line you used!
