The Journey of the Cottage Style Entertainment Center.

I found this lovely piece on Craigslist and thought...It's free, Let's do this!! It was actually something similar to what I have refinished in the past, the Sofa Table and in the end, it sorta went in that direction also.

When I picked it up, the lady told me that it was a beautiful piece when they originally purchased it but that was before the children and the dog šŸ¶ Time to make it beautiful again with a little time and patience.

This was the original photo from the ad.

It went into my garage for some cleanup and just sat. I wanted to work on it, but something was always happening. the dog was sick or plans to go somewhere, this project was on the backburner and then a little by little bit I started working on it.

I started by sanding the top. I sanded and sanded and kept feeling it just wasn't right.

(btw, my garage is not this messy now, how embarrassing šŸ˜²) but check out that hot pink bike šŸ’Ÿ

So, I went looking for inspiration at different places, what did I want to create? I picked up the Black Fusion Mineral Paint and started with the top

then I decided that all the edges and the inside trim would be black. The inside trim is more black washed than plain black and I picked up these beautiful knobs at Hobby Lobby for a couple bucks each.

Here is what the top looks like. Did I mention I tried to paint the top in white color and then decided "yeah no"?  I sanded it several times after painting it with black with a high grit paper on a belt sander. I love the final results

I kept the outside doors and the shelves all the same color wood, inside the doors are pull-outs and have DVD storage. I removed the top DVD Racks and put in a breadbasket for little things that I want to hide. (perfect fit)

The cabinet originally had doors for the inside shelves, but I kept them off and I am in the process of making something for my sister with them. It took time and patience, but I am really happy with how it turned out and it fits perfectly next to the fireplace.

and if you happen to notice thru any other projects on my blog. I like black and wood furniture. But here's a little tip, my hair and my dog are that color, my interior doors are blank and aged brass hardware. I see a theme going on here ;)

I love it! And I love that you didn't cover up all the beautiful wood, great contrast! I also love that you didn't paint it white or any pastelly pale shade then add dark wax over it. And most of all, I love that you found no need to distress it! You are a person after my own heart. This piece is totally perfect!
