DIY Mini Greenhouse Kit

Make this easy mini greenhouse to start seeds indoors. This is a very easy DIY project that's great for kids or adults. It uses upcycled materials, so it can even been completely free to make.

You can use this for vegetable seeds or flower seeds. I use it for tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, and lettuce in mini greenhouses inside and then move them to the garden when they are bigger.

You'll need:

  • clear plastic containers (I used a spinach container, but you can use a strawberry container)
  • Seed starting mix
  • 18 paper rolls
  • Craft sticks
  • Spoon
  • Scissors
  • Sharpie
1

Cut the paper towel rolls to they will fit inside the container with the lid closed. Leave room to make a bottom for each roll so the dirt stays in the roll. Make four 3/4 inch cuts on the bottom.

2

Fold the flaps over to seal.

3

Set the rolls inside the container. Fill the rolls with seed starting mix.

4

Cut the sticks in half and label.

5

Place the seeds in the dirt. Follow the directions for each type of seed for the proper depth.

Set your mini greenhouse in a warm location until the seeds germinate into sprouts. Then place where they will get sunlight. The paper rolls are biodegradable, so you can plant them directly in the ground.

I've been making origami, square newspaper, seedling potting starting containers to start my plants/bury into my raised garden/raised planters. Will try this. Seems less work. Thanks. Maybe the tubes need to be slashed vertically on the bottom with scissors to allow enough evaporation/drainage?

Rolls got moldy before I could plant them, just as seeds were emerging!
