Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Tulip. All opinions are my own. Hello! I am so happy that you decided to check out this project because I am so excited to share it with you. When I am browsing online looking for home decor pillows, I come across so many different yet gorgeous designs and patterns but the thought occurred to me, why don’t I just make my own fabulous throw pillow? I have been on a real boho kick lately with my decor so I thought it was high time that I put a little boho vibe into my DIYs. Follow along with these instructions using Tulip Paints if you wish to recreate this project, too.

Materials I used for this project:

  • White 12x12 pillow cover
  • Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint - Black
  • Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint - White
  • Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint - Leaf Green
  • Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint - Yellow
  • Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint - True Red
  • Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint - Neon Blue
  • Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint - Purple
Step One

Begin your project by marking out the design on your pillow cover using a pencil. I chose a design that is very simple and is totally easy to replicate.

Step Two

For the trees, mix together 2 parts Tulip Soft Matte in Leaf Green to 1 part Tulip Soft Matte in black. Begin painting trees by doing every other one.

Step Three

Keeping the same paint mixture add a couple drops of Tulip Soft Matte in Neon Blue to lighten it up. Mix well and then paint the remaining trees that are in between the other ones you already painted.

Step Four

For the first portion of the skyline, mix together equal amounts of Tulip Soft Matte in the colours, Yellow, True Red and White. Paint the first portion of your skyline with this gorgeous boho peach mixture.

Step Five

Keeping the same mixture, add in a couple drops of the Tulip Soft Matte in black and white — this will turn your peach colour to a nice browny/grey mixture. This is what you will use to paint the second portion of your skyline. For the top portion of the skyline or as I like to call it the “mountain peak” mix in a couple drops of Tulip Soft Matte Purple. This will change the colour of your paint to a nice soft boho purple. Paint your mountain peak.

Step Six

For the sun, to create a nice mauve mixture, start with a fresh container and then mix together Tulip Soft Matte in Yellow, True Red and White. Once mixed add in just a tiny drop of black. Mix well and then paint the sun.

Step Seven

Allow your pillow cover to lay flat and dry for four hours. After 72 hours you can wash your pillow cover inside out. This Soft Matte Fabric Paint from Tulip is so very soft to the touch and will not leave your pillow feeling hard or crunchy. Display your pillow in your home proudly and when anyone enters you can say without hesitation — “hey, I made that” with a big smile on your face!

Could you paint the bottom color all the way to the bottom all the way across, then paint the trees over that color?
