Fitting a Kitchen Plinth

Here’s my step by step on how I fitted my kitchen plinth for the first time as part of my utility series. You can also find a follow-along video at the very bottom of this page!

You find the original how-to here.

To finish our utility kitchen off, I installed a kickboard. Also known as a kitchen plinth.

It's made of MDF with a high gloss coating. Note you can buy them at the right depth. However, I cut up large end panel for the job.

So I'll show you how I did it.

You can find my YouTube video here.

First, measure the length you need.

If you're going into a corner, you won't need the full length.

Now masking tape your plinth and transfer the measurement.

Wearing a dust mask, cut with a hand saw. OR even better... cut outside.

Unfortunately for me here in the UK, it was raining!

Measure the height of your kitchen units and repeat.

Tip: avoid cutting it too tight if you ever need to take it off.

You'll probably find it easier with a jigsaw here.

Lay the newly cut plinth in front of the kitchen unit legs and mark centre of each leg.

Extend those pencil marks with a speed square.

Line up a plinth foot clip to the pencil line and draw screw holes before pre-drilling.

Screw on the clip plate.

Slide the matching leg clip into the plates on all of them.

Now push the plinth on and repeat for the other side if needed.

What a great idea 💡I’m definitely going to do this. I’m thinking that is a lot of storage for my baking sheets. 👍👍👍
