$10 Curtains
I love long dramatic curtains, but man they can be EXPENSIVE. So, I found the quick and easy way to make my own.
I bought a flat twin sheet from Walmart and cut it in half.
My daughter wanted pink curtains, and since it’s her room, I figured why not?? So, I filled hot water in a large plastic container, added 1 cup of salt, and some RIT dye in ‘rose quarts’
I soaked each curtain in water And then added them to the dye mixture. I let them soak for roughly 10 minutes while stirring consistently.
once they’re done soaking you rinse them out until the rinsing water runs clear. After that, I washed them on delicate and put an old towel in with them to catch any excess dye during washing.
After washing and drying, I cut slits into the backside of the top of the sheet where it is doubled. This is where your curtain rod will go.
Be sure to only cut through one layer!
This is what it looks like when it’s put onto the rod. I left the edge of my curtains raw and just put the raw edge next to the wall and the finished edge towards the center. You can’t tell that the one edge is raw.
if I had a sewing machine available, I’d finish it off really quickly. As I don’t, I just left it. Eventually I’ll finish them.
here we have the finished project. The perfect light pink curtains and for only $10! Super super simple and so charming.

Good for you, not spending big bucks. What you didn't spend will be available for something else, a two for one win.

Have a question about this project?
If you are worried about the spots where you cut they make a product to stop fraying. I’m not 100% but I think it is called Liquid Fray and comes in a bottle that you apply to the cut areas. Perhaps a sewer on here could correct me if I got the name wrong. I think your curtains look great. Kids like to change their rooms often (mine did anyway!) so why spend a lot of money when this works?!
Hi Nikki, I understand your thinking I hope. You wanted the look of pinch pleated curtains which can be expensive, and came up with a way to have them inexpensively. Good job!!! You can reuse and make those curtains different in styles as your child grows and as your likes change. Even recoloring them. Rit has a color remover if I am correct. My one question is about the feather mobile did you make it? I looked at your posted work and there was nothing on it. It is lovely. For me I think I would have hung it invisibly with fishing line to make it look as if it were floating, and added tiny brass bells :)
My concern is that they are touching the floor heater at the bottom. This could pose a fire hazard. do you raise them up when the heater is in use?
