Easy

I found an old, vintage dairy bucket several years ago. It has been sitting around collecting dust, waiting for me to find its purpose. Then we bought a plant that needed a home and that is when the idea struck me that the bucket could be turned into a planter. Keep reading to find out what we did!

Materials

First, gather your materials.

•metal bucket

•drill with desired bit

•potting soil

•plant

•crushed water bottles

Drilling

The next step is to drill holes in the bottom of the bucket and a few on the sides near the bottom. These are the drainage holes.

Holes drilled

Now that the holes are drilled you can determine if they are large enough or if you’ll need more.

The Filling

This was a larger bucket. To keep the drainage working, we placed crushed water bottles and a few cans in the bottom of the bucket. Thus helps keep the bucket from being to heavy to move.

The Soil

We used miracle grow potting soil. There are a lot of potting soil options out there, or if you make your own soul, do what feels Best.

Planting

We filled the bottom half of the bucket full of soil. The we placed the plant in the bucket next, making sure to break up the roots. Breaking up the roots helps the plant to grow and thrive in its new home. It’s like waking them up from a nap. Then we topped off the soil to the top of the bucket.

Final Look

And this is how she looks. A happy snake plant in its new home. I’m so glad we decided to use this bucket as a planter. I’m even more glad we bought this snake plant when we saw it on sale. The project didn’t cost much since we had potting soil at home and the bucket just laying around. Repurposing old things into new things is one of our favorite things to do.
