Repurposed Flower Pot Using Napkins

Turning old items you already have into something new is a fun way to save money on “new” decor! And there’s nothing better than a repurposed flower pot to give your outdoor decor a fresh new look.

A few years ago, I bought a flower pot at Walmart to use in an outdoor project. My plan was to use the pot as a lamp for the little table on my back porch.

I put rocks in the pot and added a solar light and that was it. It turned out really cute and I loved the way it lit up at night.

However, after a few years the pot became stained and gross and the solar light no longer works. I’m sure I can replace the battery and it’ll be fine, but I also need a new place to put it since the porch is shaded now.

So, I decided to give the old dingy flower pot a new and updated look. And now I love my new repurposed flower pot!

Step 1 - Clean the planter

The first thing you want to do is clean your old flower pot the best you can. I gave mine a good scrub with soap and water, but some of the stains remained.

Step 2 - Tape

After your flower pot is all clean and completely dry, tape off the top and bottom sections. You can skip this part if you want your repurposed flower pot to be all one color.

Step 3 - Paint

Spray paint the middle section of the flower pot and sit aside to dry. After the paint has completely dried, carefully remove all the tape from the top and bottom sections.

Step 4 - Tape Again

Now you're going to tape the middle section that you just painted so you can paint the top and bottom with the spray paint.

Step 5 - Paint

Spray paint the top and bottom sections of your planter. I did both sections the same color, but you can do different colors if you wish.

Paint the inside of the planter the same color as the top section. I didn't paint the entire inside, especially the bottom. You just want to make sure you get around the inside rim at least.

Set aside and let dry.

Step 6 - Remove the tape.

After the paint is completely dry, carefully remove the tape.

Step 7 - Modpodge the napkins on

Now comes the fun part! Grab your Mod Podge, napkins, sponge brush, and a paper plate. (I like to pour my Mod Podge out on a paper plate to make it easier to put on the brush.) I love working with this stuff because it’s so easy and can be used for so many projects.

The first thing you want to do is seperate your napkin layers. You're only going to use the top part of the napkin.

Then, cut your napkins to the size of the middle of your flower pot. Then, put a generous amount of Mod Podge on the flower pot and place the napkin on top; smooth out any wrinkles and bubbles.

Keep in mind that the napkins are straight and the flower pot is round. It’s better to cut the napkins into smaller pieces rather than try to wrap the whole thing around the flower pot.

Do this all the way around the flower pot and let dry completely.

After the Mod Podge is completely dry, add another generous layer all over the entire middle section where the napkins are.

Step 8 - Decorate

After your repurposed flower pot is completely dry, you can add a plant, or decorate it anyway you wish. For mine, I chose to add rocks and candles for a more romantic look.
