Fun Spooky Repurposed Wine Corks For Halloween
I have a jar for old corks in my craft cupboard. Everytime we open a bottle of wine or Champagne I put the cork in the jar. I was hoping to get enough corks to make a notice board, but we don't drink that much wine and a lot of bottles are screw top these days. Last year I made some fantastic Halloween Lights out the the wine bottles (see here) so this year I thought I'd upcycle the wine corks for Halloween too.
This is a a really fun craft to do with the kids and they will enjoy playing with the corks afterwards.
I screwed a small eyelet screw into the top of each cork.
I then dipped the corks in diluted white paint and hung them to dry.
By painting the corks white this made them easier to decorate for Halloween.
I sketched out the designs for 9 different spooky Halloween characters which you can download from the blog for free. These included
A ghost
A Mummy
A Skull
Count Dracula
Frankenstiens Monster
A Bat
Jack O'Lantern
Pumpkin head skeleton
& a skeleton inspired by the movie Nightmare Before Christmas
I used sharpies to draw the faces on the corks and colour them where needed. For the mummy I added a cut up bandage. Count Dracula had a felt cape and the Bat felt wings.
Frankenstien was given screws for ears.
Then I used twine in the eyelet screws to make the figures into a fun garland.
I still have a few corks left and plan to make some more Halloween Characters. Perhaps a witch and wizzard like my very popular Halloween gnomes I made last year (see here).
