Time to change the mural at the College Station house for my other son to move in. My oldest son graduated and my youngest son is going to college and wanted some changes.

The first mural I did was a huge logo but it was too light. I then made it more "maroon" and he loved it.

So to do the brick wall in a gray tone, I first painted the entire wall with a light gray in an "eggshell" finish. bye, bye logo!

Then I glazed it with black acrylic paint mixed with glaze (two part glaze, one part black) to give it an "uneven" look to "imitate" the grout.

Floor liner which has a little foam inside and like aluminum sides.

I had made my template at home with a clear plastic but when I tried using it, it was a disaster so I was lucky to find a roll of floor liner that we had just used to install the flooring. It was so easy to cut and it was sturdy enough and also waterproof! It worked great!!

I first made a few marks using a level and a chalk to make sure my stencil would align properly and be straight.

Using a small round sponge and the same light gray paint I used to paint the wall, I pounced the paint inside the holes loosely so that it doesn't come out perfect.

It took me several hours because it was a big tall wall. I was exhausted.

I still had to make the shadows of the bricks to make them look realistic but I decided to do it on our next trip up there.

I painted this "stamp" grafiti which is what my son wanted but I will not show here how I did it because it was not easy and you need some skills and experience to do it by hand icon . But I do want to show here that only a small section of the bricks have the shadow and some bricks where darkened a little as well.

Here is a closer look at the shadowing effect which I only did on the left and bottom of the bricks to give it a 3-D effect.

So we came back the following weekend and I finished the shadows. Here is the wall all done. He and his roommates loved it!! I was a happy mom icon

The idea for the color and bricks was to match it with the fireplace as seen here.

I was lucky to have all the materials I needed but if I were to guess how much it would cost, I would say around $100
