I have a small fridge outside next to the bbq that has seen better days. The top and side had flaking rust and paint. This project cost $7 in materials (1 can spray paint and 2 dollar store mats). Am happy with the result

Here is what I did

1) clean everything with a degreaser

2) after cleaning wipe down all surfaces with alcohol

3) Mask off the sections that you don’t want to paint (trim , rubber gaskets ,handles)

4) using light even strokes paint the surfaces with spray paint

5) for the top cut two placemats to size

6) Attach mats by brushing on vinyl adhesive

7) place a weight over the mats to ensure they adhere to the surface

8) let all surfaces dry

9) remove tape

Tools needed

-2 placemats

-exacto knife or razor blade

-painters tape

-alcohol

-spray paint (I used behr paint and primer in hi -gloss “hidden sea glass”)

-vinyl adhesive

Apply spray paint

In short even sweeping strokes. This is so the paint doesn’t start to curtain (drip)

Apply vinyl adhesive

Apply in “X” pattern. Be sure to

saturate the edges so the glue adheres properly. The glue should be tacky to

the touch

Trim mats
Trim mats in place

After applying adhesive trim the mats in place. Note because the edges of the refrigerator are rounded it is best to use a razor blade at a 45 degree angle to trim. That way you have a beveled edge

We inherited 2 dorm fridges from our daughters. i may have to add them to my mile long painting list.

Peel and stick vinyl tile would be another cool option.
