Hey it's Jess from Jessica Welling Interiors! We're on a pom pom kick at my house, and after making some great Fall pom pom garlands, the kids and I decided to make a pompom spider garland for Halloween. These could also be made as individual spiders. Let's get started.

Gather Supplies

Gather up your supplies before you begin, and plug in your glue gun so it can start heating up.

This is the large size from my favorite set of pom pom makers. They're the best, sturdiest brand I've tried, and they make pom pom making fun and simple. They're also easy enough that my five-year-old was able to use them by herself. I'll put a link below.

Wrap yarn around the first side.

Open one side of the pom pom maker. It doesn't matter which side you start with. Begin wrapping it with the black yarn. Wrap it about 60-80 times, so it covers the whole side.

Close 1st Side & Open 2nd Side

Once the first side is completely wrapped with yarn, close it and open the other side. Begin wrapping yarn around the second side, about the same number of times as the first side.

Close 2nd Side.

Close the second side. Both sides of the pom pom maker should be closed now.

Cut

Now take the craft scissors and cut down the center of the pom pom maker, being sure to cut every piece of yarn. There's a groove you can run the scissors through. We tried using regular scissors for this at first, and it was really hard to cut through all the yard. So I ordered these little sharp craft scissors, and they're perfect. I'll include a link below.

Once the yarn is cut, be sure to keep the pompom maker closed, or you'll end up with a big pile of short yarn pieces.

Tie

Now take a length of white yard (1-2 feet long), and tie it around the center of the pom pom maker, being sure to pull it as tight as possible. Knot it a second time.

Open

Now Open both sides of the pompom maker. Then pull the two halves apart to release the pom pom.

Give it a haircut

I usually give the pom pom a trim with the craft scissors to even everything up.

Make the legs.

Now take 4 black pipe cleaners and line them up together. Find the center of all of them, and twist them together so they look like this.

Bend the legs.

Next bend each of the eight spider legs so there's a "knee" and a "foot" on each one.

Attach the legs.

Use the hot glue gun to attach the legs to the top of the spider's body.

Attach the eyes.

Hot glue the eyes onto the spider's body. I just used two eye because I wanted cute spiders. If you want them more creepy, go for eight eyes. Repeat this process to make as many spiders as your want.

Tie the garland together.

Now cut a length of white yarn as long as you want your garland to be. Tie each individual spider onto it so that the spiders hang at different lengths. Now go hang it up right away. If you leave it sitting somewhere it's going to get all tangled up!
