This post won't appeal to everyone, there are so many talented diy'ers out there doing some awesome new things with painted furniture! This is not one of them lol. But, if this post helps one newbie tackle a project, than it's all good.

I have a lot of patterns in my living room and joining dining room so I wanted something neutral, simple and easy to decorate with accessories throughout the seasons.

I picked up an old coffee table on market place. I loved the look and shape of it, especially since I have not seen anything like it anywhere and I like to be different ;) (as you will see by my livingroom).

This table was in dire need of a makeover but so worth the effort.

First things first, gave it a good cleaning and light sand.

Next was primer. I know sometimes I feel lazy and don't want to take the extra step but it's so worth it to prep a piece. There is constant debate about whether you need to prime or not. I always usually try to just to be safe. Other pieces I've had and not primed, eventually showed signs of that with use.

If you look closely, you can see the tanins coming out after one coat of primer so obviously a good choice to do it. Once I did two coats, it was good to go.

On the table top, I filled in the dings and dents with wood filler, let dry and then gave a quick light sand.

Primed the top as well, two coats.

Once both coats of paint were finished I let it sit a day before I gave it three coats of varnish.

Very happy with the finished project. Simple and easy to decorate.

Ps don't look at the curtains! Had them already so I just put them up until I find what I'm looking for. This seems to be a constant theme with me.....it takes me forever to find curtains I like!

Note, I have to put in a cost here, and since I had the supplies already, it only cost me what I paid for the table so that's why it so low.

When you said 'varnish', did u mean white paint? (I checked your link for varnish, & it took me to clear coat varnish). So now, I'm confused.

It looks beautiful, btw! Great finish. 😍
