Create a quick and easy DIY Pumpkin Bushel Basket in just about 30 minutes. A chipboard bushel basket from the craft store transforms into a fun piece of Autumn décor that can grace your home from the first day of Fall until Thanksgiving.

Supplies

Here’s what you need to make a Fall Pumpkin from a Basket:

  • Chipboard Bushel Basket
  • Natural Wrapped Floral Wire
  • Kunin Classics™ Felt 9” x 12” Craft Cuts – Olive Green
  • Wine Cork
  • Americana Acrylics from DecoArt – Spiced Pumpkin, Jack-O-Lantern Orange, Canyon Orange
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors – I love my Fiskars!
  • Wire Cutters
  • Chopstick or Pencil
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Plain Paper
  • Straight Pins
  • Ruler

Cut Off The Rope Handles

Carefully cut the rope handles from the top edge of the basket with scissors or remove the wire handles with needle-nose pliers.

Paint

Basecoat the outside of the bushel basket with Spiced Pumpkin acrylic paint. Make sure to get in all the nooks and crannies between the slats in the basket. Before the basecoat is completely dry, apply Canyon Orange acrylic paint in the recessed sections of the bushel basket with random strokes. To create highlights, the bushel basket, apply Jack-O-Lantern Orange acrylic paint with a dry paintbrush to the raised areas. This technique will give the paint a rough and inconsistent application.

Cut The Leaves

Draw a leaf shape onto plain paper and pin it to Olive Green Kunin Felt Craft Cuts. Cut out the leaf with scissors, then repeat to cut out a second leaf. Use scraps of green fabric or scrapbook paper instead of felt

Make The Stem

Measure and cut two twelve-inch lengths of natural wrapped floral wire with wire cutters. Brown chenille stems would also work if you have those on hand. Wrap wires around a pencil to create spirals, then remove. Pull and squeeze the wires to create natural-looking pumpkin vines and then wrap around the wine cork.

Attach The Wine Cork Stem

Attach the wine cork stem, the vines, and the leaves to the top center of the pumpkin bushel basket with a glue gun and glue sticks. If you do not have a wine cork, use thick rope or a small tree branch as the pumpkin stem.

Very cute & clever idea! Where did you get the natural floral wire? And how long of length can you get? And how much did it cost? Sorry so many questions, but I have an old Christmas tree with hard wire branches for stem and I'm wanting to dismantle a bunch of them and make a Garland, as Christmas/winter garlands are so expensive for the thick, full nice ones like I want. Thanks in advance!!🙂

Could this be used as a cloche?
