We all know that decor options are endless, the themes and color schemes are always changing with the seasons. What's a savvy and yet stylish way to keep up and yet not break the bank while doing it?? Shop and swap, shop for some seasonal accents to swap out of your existing holders and vases. This will cut down on costs and yet keep things fresh and current for your decor, let me show you how.

Existing Arrangement

The holder was one that I bought at an antique store so I didn't want to part with it but I did want to change it up. Nothing easier then to whip out some paint to solve that issue.

Whiten it Up

I'm going from a drab brown look to a bright white, the Farmhouse look may of had an influence on my decision?? I didn't have chalk paint on hand so I used this cabinet paint to give good overall coverage to my trowel.

Mason Jar Makeover

Fall makes you think of pumpkins and fall colored leaves which are both...orange! I decided to paint that color onto my next set of jars with my glass paints. The jars are empty spaghetti sauce bottles, we have spaghetti Tuesday most every week therefore I have a stash to recycle! I clean the glass with alcohol first, then I used a sponge to quickly blot and dab the paint on in just one pass, no second coat!

Paint Comparison

The Martha Stewart glass paint leaves a frosted look and hence leaves the surface is a little more rough. The Gallery Glass leaves a smooth, glossy finish, it's a little more translucent but both work fine for this project.

Free Foliage

Heh, nothing better than free stuff right? I went out into my yard to rummage around for small, dead branches, there were lots! I snipped off the smaller ends for my needs and put the rest back for the birds to hide in and around.

Materials Laid Out

Recycled jars, recycled trowel, free branches and some assorted Fall florals and stems were all laid out on my work space before I began assembling everything.

Brown Paper Filler

To give my stems some added height I scrunched up some brown paper to place in the bottom of the jar. I had used floral foam in the past but this will do as well.

Preparing the Stems

With some of my florals I chose to divide up the larger bunch to give me smaller sections to place a little in each jar. Once they were cut the stem was way too short so I needed to lengthen the stem so it would have a leg to stand on.

Tools Used

Wire cutting pliers, floral tape and leftover pieces of floral stems or skewer sticks are how I add extra length to a short stem.

Join Made

The extra wire stem was overlapped onto to the stubby end of the fern and sealed with the floral tape. As you wrap the tape, pull it taut as you wind and it becomes tacky enough to seal the stems together. You can buy it at most dollar stores in either a brown or green...it's great to have for these projects.

Hiding the Obvious

The bottles as I previously mentioned were painted but it's not a solid paint to enable me tohide the paper and stems. Solution?

Burlap Ribbon

I was on a roll...a burlap ribbon roll! It served to conceal all of that junk in the jar and provide a bit of a cushion between all three bottles. Cut, wrap and hot glue, cha-ching!

Tah-dah!

What a difference those little switches all made, it looks completely different right? I could distress the white box, add a decal or wording but for now I'm going to leave it as is, afterall that might provide me with a new look for Winter and/or Spring?

Sitting Pretty

It's seen here in one of my basement windows to give you an overall idea of how well it fits in now with other Fall accents. As an added tip the best time to buy seasonal accents is....out of season! The stuffed owl was bought at Michael's at their end of season 50% off sale! The ceramic owl...a shiny cherry red, yard sale pick that got spray painted in a more obvious Fall tone and the Family sign...a goodwill find! Decor that didn't break the bank! .

My New View

All in all my items will no doubt get swapped out, switched up and painted over to give me many more looks yet before I let them go. But for now I'll just enjoy this look inside before my view goes all white outside.

Another Display Option

I am so glad to have you follow along as I craft and create and hopefully ignite a creative spark within you to try some of the things I attempt. Happy Crafting and stay safe and well!

Before and After

The little things that make all the difference, a little paint and a few different accents and it's Fall approved!

*Cost based upon having some of these items leftover from other projects such as the glass paints.
