Old Picture Upstyle

My father offered me this interesting picture but I didn't like the color of the frame. I've always been drawn to waterscapes so I took it. After doing some research on the artist and time period, I decided it was safe to paint the frame.

I used a very small brush as I didn't want to tape the boarder. I learnt that with another old painting, the painters tape took some of the picture off!

Using leftover paint, I watered it down to make sure it got in the crevices easily, and did two coats. I really wasn't concerned if any of the raised area showed through, so I blotted the paint on that part. This seemed to work really good though.

I know gold is in and many people reading this might cringe. I just like the clean white look, eventually this will go in my cabin at the lake so it will look fit in nicely.

Anyway, here is the finished project, in it's temporary place. Eventually, I will do a gallery wall but I love how it turned out and I enjoy having my morning coffee while glancing at this picture, wishing I was there, instead of looking at the snow out my window :)

  • So how did you protect the painting without painters tape?

The white really makes the light in the picture stand out, and suddenly, it's not an old picture anymore but a tranquil one.

BTW, I love what the photos show of your home and decor! Can I ask about the slipcovers on your couch? Did you make them? Buy them? If so, where?

That's great! What I love about this site, is being able to give each other ideas and inspiration, I've learnt so much from others. Enjoy your projects!

  • Beautiful revamp, you made it your own and it fits there perfectly, even if in its temporary place.
