It is time to start getting ready for Christmas and here is an inexpensive way to add a little holiday to your diy decor!

I wanted to try a little Christmas diy project to get in the holiday spirit - especially this year, getting into the holiday spirit can only help at this point! I don't know about you but I do not pull out the Christmas decor until the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas music is not allowed until December. I do not like to have clutter in my house so the day after Christmas, everything comes down and gets put away. What does your house look like at Christmas?

Anyway, I found this lamp on Facebook Marketplace for $7. When the description said 9" I somehow imagined it would be a lot bigger than it was when I picked it up...

This lantern didn't look very "Christmasy" and I had envisioned it being a Christmas green to match my stockings. I started by taping off the glass to get it prepped for paint.

My thick painters tape was just a hair too wide for the glass so I took a knife and cut around the edge of the glass and frame.

I peeled away the cut tape and it gave me covered glass so I could spray it without having to worry about the paint getting on the glass.

I painted it Krylon Color Maxx paint + primer "Satin Hunter Green" found at Lowe's for around $4

I removed my tape and let it dry.

This lantern had a round cup screwed in the bottom to hold a tea light candle. I removed it so I had a flat surface to glue on my minis I found at Dollar Tree.

I did want my minis to sit up higher so I used a Lays potato stacks lid to give me a little bit of a platform to sit up higher.

I also spray painted the Lay's lid to match the green of the lantern. Do not mock my set up for gluing the minis on the lid! The lid was still wet with paint so I needed to protect my countertops. No judging, please!

I glued the lid on the bottom of the lantern. It doesn't matter if you can see the glue because it is going to be covered with faux snow, also found from the dollar store.

I add that little ribbon and the topiary also found at the dollar store. I added my faux snow and shut the door. I just hope the kids don't open the door and dump it all out!

I think it turned out pretty cute! Dollar Tree had some pretty cute stuff to work with. I originally had planned to put a red bird with some topiary in it but the bird was too big for my lantern. I also thought one of those houses would have been cute to use too but again they didn't fit either. Depending on if you try this project and you have a larger lantern, you would do one of the stores or a bird.

I don't know about you, but I'm ready for Christmas and for 2020 to be over with! Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and a Happier New Year!! Thank you so much for reading my posts and leaving me comments! I love to hear from you!

Very nice, I was thinking same thing you may be able to find someone of those timer type fairy lights to put inside to light it up - would look nice with lights. But great idea making me think about doing that to a few of mine now
