If you have scrap wood, a little paint, and some Christmas decor scraps, then these little snowmen will cost you next to nothing.

Supply List

  • 1' - 2" x 4" board
  • 4" x 4" - 1" x 4" board
  • 2" of a round dowel
  • Saw - I used my miter saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Glue gun
  • Wood glue
  • White & black craft or interior paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Small wooden pieces for nose and eyes - (or draw them on yourself)
  • 12" ribbon or one inch wide material for scarf
  • 2 buttons
  • Embellishments for hat - garland, bells, leaves, bows
Cutting the wood - Body

  • Using a sanding block, sand wood before cutting
  • The first step is to cut the body of the snowman. I used scrap 2" x 4" boards. Cut 3 pieces:
  • 5"
  • 4"
  • 3"
  • Sand cut sides
Cutting the wood - Hat

  • Hat brim: Cut the 1" x 4" in a 4" length
  • Hat: Cut the 2" dowel into a 2" length
Paint

  • Paint the body white, the hat brim and dowel black. Apply 2 coats. Allow to dry
Gluing

  • With wood glue, glue the body pieces together beginning with 5" then 4" then 3"
  • Glue the hat brim to the 3" and then the dowel to the top of the brim
  • You can glue the hat to the body at this point or wait and do it when you decorate the hat
For the eyes & nose

If you are artsy, you can either paint or draw the nose and eyes for your snowman. I chose to use little wooden craft pieces for them.

Color the eyes & nose

  • Use colored sharpies or paint for the nose & eyes
Eyes, nose, buttons

  • With wood glue, attach the eyes & nose to the top block
  • Add buttons to the body with hot glue
Decorate the hat

  • Embellish hat as desired using garland, bells, pinecones, etc
Scarf

  • Using ribbon or a piece of fabric, tie a scarf between the 2nd & 3rd blocks of wood. Secure with hot glue

Just love the faces on these little snowmen. Such a cute decoration for any room in the home. Also, a great gift for a favorite relative or even a teacher. LOVE IT.

Thanks! If I was more artistic, I would have attempted to draw the faces on, but using these little wooden pieces was a great alternative.

Super Cute! I love Snowmen! I'm with you as I would have used the small craft pieces to make the face as well because I am so not artsy. Thanks for sharing.
