Super easy, 3 ingredient, homemade cinnamon Christmas ornaments. A great DIY craft to make with your kids or grandkids.

Finished cinnamon ornaments waiting to be strung!

Ingredients

1 cup ground cinnamon

3 tablespoons white school glue

3/4 cup applesauce

Directions:

Mix applesauce, glue and cinnamon in a bowl, use a spatula to be sure to get all of the ingredients from the side and bottom of the bowl. Once mixed gather the dough into a ball and knead on your work surface for a few minutes.

Sprinkle your work surface with a little cinnamon and roll out the dough to 1/4" thickness. Cut out your favorite shapes.

Place the cookie/ornaments on a parchment lined baking pan. Poke a hole in the top with a skewer or a straw.Let ornaments sit for 24-48 hours to dry, turn occasionally to help them dry faster. Alternately, you can bake the ornaments at 200F for 2 hours.

One the ornaments are dry or cooled from baking they are ready to be hung. Simply cut lengths of twine to the desired length, poke the twine through the hole that you made before the cookies dried, tie the two ends together and they are ready

Wondering from everyone who've made these, does it smell like apple pie bc of the applesauce? I can't stand that smell.

    (I know 😕)

I'm a snowbird, and live in the south for the winter. Would this recipe of applesauce and cinnamon attract unwanted visitors to our home? I.e. roaches? Please advise.

I love the idea and the simplicity of the project. They would make great stocking stuffers, too!

    Thank you!

Making these this weekend with my granddaughter and on Thursday with a special needs friend that loves to try new things and has never done these. She not only gets to make them but she gets to take what she makes home! I can't wait to do these!

Couple little hints before you make these. We have made these many times with preschoolers. You may want to have them wear plastic gloves. The cinnamon can stain hands depending on the type of cinnamon used. It is also possible it can irritate the skin. If you want to add a little more scent to them you can also add in a pinch of ginger and/or clove ;)

Oldie but a goodie. There is nothing better than scents of baking at Christmas. I’ve seen folks who make “icing” to decorate. Most folks just toss at end of season for fear of bugs/mold and loss of aroma. Such a minimal investment and so much fun/easy remake every year along with popcorn strings and cranberry garland.
