We have a den in our home that has a 90's niche covered in wallpaper that was driving me crazy. I decided to add a slatted accent wall as a feature.

We love how it turned out!

This what what the wall looked like on the listing photos when we first bought the house.

I stripped the wallpaper off the wall using a steamer and then painted the wall. Luckily the paper came off easily. The next step was painting the wall. Don't skip this step. You need to paint the wall in case there are any gaps in the wood that you may be able to see through. I used a medium brown paint I had left over from a previous project.

To make the slat wall we bought 1/4 x 2 inch boards from Home Depot. We attached the wood starting at the bottom and worked our way up. We attached them using a pneumatic nailer. These are readily available for rent at your local Home Depot.

I intended to leave the wall it's natural color and was just going to seal it which is why I did not stain the boards prior to attaching. But....Once I lived with it for a few days I knew I wanted to stain the wood. UGH. This is not the easy way to do it. So I recommend if you are going to stain the wood do it BEFORE you attach them to the wall. I used a cherry stain which I wiped on with a rag.... very carefully.

It took two coats to get the color right. The cherry stain was a good choice for the room. I then sealed the wood with a polyurethane sealer in a matte finish. I then had to go back and touch up the wall paint.

We love our new slat wall and the niche doesn't bother me at all anymore!

Beautiful! Perhaps I missed the information due to reading too fast, but I still didn’t find it after a review. The pieces of wood look neat and fit perfectly. How did you round the corners?

what is the name of the grey color you used for the walls?

What a beautiful job. The wood slat wall rocks! We love your color scheme and would love to know the color of gray you used. It’s a very pretty & relaxing tone. Thanks.
