My two sisters and I are all growed up and visiting with our own families. So the baby blue paint and butterfly theme I chose for this bedroom as a tween had to go. We were all was ready to see this bedroom get a more modern and mature makeover.

My mom and I really liked the idea of a dramatic color block behind the bed to help anchor the space, and I was up to the challenge of making this work on the textured walls. The first step however, was to repaint this entire room. We chose the warm white color Slipstream, by Valspar.

The first step in getting crisp paint lines on textured walls is using a high quality painters tape. If you already have your favorite brand, great! The green  FrogTape just happens to be the brand I prefer. The width of the tape depends solely on your preference.

Next, use your base wall color to paint over the edge of the tape that will be against your accent color. Make sure to brush on a nice thick layer of paint.

After the base paint is dry, paint over the edge of the tape again with your accent color. Try to be patient! Don’t peel off the tape until you have finished all the coats of accent color.

After the final coat of accent color is applied, you can remove your tape and reveal your line. It was easy to get crisp paint lines on textured walls with this technique, even with heavily textured walls. This color block line didn’t even require any touchups!

The neutral paint color with the fun pop of color made a major difference in this room and was such a simple project. We ordered a modern piece of art from  Photowall to help highlight our deep blue color block. We love the misty blue mountains in this scene. Photowall has some majorly cool products, and you can get an extra 25% off using the code heathercammack25 so make sure to check them out.

This bedroom is now a relaxing retreat for adults and we are glad to have the butterfly phase behind us. You can recreate this look using the accent Night Swim and base Slipstream by Valspar.
