Boho Style: DIY Raffia Wall Mirror

Deco objects made from wild grass are my favorite decoration this year. Inspired by the lifestyle of the 60s and 70s and reinterpreted, the casual, light wickerwork brings a boho feeling into the home. Natural materials such as raffia, grass, linen, cotton as well as delicate colors in earth and natural tones form the basis.

Very trendy this season: round raffia mirrors with fringes.

In just a few steps I will show you how to create an individual DIY wall mirror with fringes from raffia. The instructions for copying are child’s play and do not require any special knowledge: raffia loops are tied to a metal ring and the metal ring is then glued to the mirror. Instead of the hot glue gun, you can also use power glue or a similarly strong glue. Even in the raffia color, whatever you like is allowed. Instead of the natural tones, you can also create brightly colored versions.

This is how to do it:

Material: 1 bunch of raffia, small round mirror (15 cm diameter), metal ring (15 cm diameter), hot glue gun including glue

Duration: approx. 40 minutes

Step 1: On my mirror version, the fringes are 15 cm long. So cut your raffia into 30 cm long pieces.

Step 2: Form a loop with the piece of raffia, place the metal ring on top and thread the ends through the loop. Tighten the raffia. This creates a nice knot. Repeat this step until the entire metal ring is completely filled with raffia.

Step 3: Now heat up the hot glue gun. Here you have to work very quickly so that the glue stays liquid. Apply a thin line of hot glue to the inside edge of the raffia ring. Glue the front of the mirror to the ring and press everything into place. Now apply some hot glue to the outer edge of the mirror so that everything is firmly in place.

Step 4: To hang it up, I simply made a small loop with a piece of raffia and glued it to the back of the mirror with plenty of glue.

The homemade wall mirror made of raffia is ready. Since I couldn’t make up my mind, I made two versions: one in natural, one in brown. Which do you like better?

Thank you for sharing. You can buy the raffia skirt from dollar tree and save money … more for your bucks. I’m gonna try it.
