A Home for the Gnome…

Remember this little door from my closet? It hides the access for the mechanisms of my whirlpool tub.

OMGoodness I have had some fun with it! I ordered a slew of accessories from Amazon (my go-to place for any and everything these days) – a set of small , because why have a gnome home if there is no gnome to live there?

I painted the door with a lime green chalk paint that I selected from my extensive accumulation of craft paints because I felt it would contrast nicely with the navy blue on the walls, and then coated it with clear wax. These days, the Waverly clear wax from Walmart is my favorite go-to. You just paint it on and let it sit for 24 hours (or more) and then buff with a cloth. Super easy. Great finish.

I installed the door handle and put a line of wrought iron nails across the bottom. I cut out a backing for the windows from a small scrap of iridescent vinyl that I had on hand, painted the window frames white and glued the assembly to the front of the door. I then reinstalled the door in it’s frame, and attached the porch light and the mailbox. The camping light sits just inside the door in case Gnigel (my resident gnome) needs it.

The door is partially hidden behind Sig’s rack of pants so it’s not too visible, but it’s a little touch of whimsey and I LOVE how it turned out. Check out that light!!! IT actually WORKS! Swoon…. (yes, I moved it from the “door frame” to the wall – it looked better)

Have you ever seen anything so precious?? Gnigel has been slightly delayed in his travels – COVID, and all that – but he should be arriving soon. We have everything ready for him to move in.
