Hi friends! So glad you’re here! Maybe you caught my Insta Reels yesterday {yes, you read that right! I made a Reel!! Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks…it may or may not have taken watching a few YouTube tutorials to figure it all out…but I did it! Woot!} but I showed you in video form how I added shelving to my half bath!

This tiny half bath certainly has seen its fair share of insanity over the short time we’ve owned this 1886 Victorian, and I fully intend to show it off in a series of posts! I mean, it’s only fair to give one of our most visited rooms {haha} in the house a little glory, am I right?

Over the next couple of days I’ll be sharing on these topics:

*Half Bath Shelving

*Before and After During Fire Demo – eek!! You don’t want to miss this one!

*Half Bath Decor

*Half Bath Fixtures

To kick it off the series, let’s start with shelving!

Bathrooms are such an odd space and filling those spaces can be even odder (is that a word? Let’s just go with it!) Maximizing space and adding functionality is always a must…but if I’m being totally honest, I care more about adding fun, unique features that make my rooms different from the norm! That usually comes in the form of some type of DIY and a garbage pile! HA!

Wood Shelves

The space above my toilet had a towel bar there when we moved in. Nothing wrong with that, but lets be real. Is it more important to hang a towel or pretty wooden shelves that can hold beautiful decor? If you chose the latter, we can be BFFs for life!

Here’s the before…so naked and lonely!

Let’s go on a little walk down memory lane. One day, while scanning Facebook Marketplace, I came across a post of scrap wood to be burned. The guy just wanted it hauled out of his workshop. When I zoomed in on the photo {because if you are a craftaholic, you do things like this} and saw spindles and knew that pile of “s-crap” {Stephanie’s Crap! 🤣 } had to be mine! I went to the guy’s house and cleaned out his workshop for him!

In the pile of wood I took, there were a couple of beautiful, old, beat up, pine boards that had a routered edge. I instantly knew they need to be turned into a shelf…and two for that matter!

I cut the boards in half and added two wrought iron brackets to each board on the underside. Now…a little secret, if you’ve been following this ol’ blog for some time now, you know this is the 2nd time I’ve installed these same shelves 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

How To Hang Wood Shelves with Wooden Shelf Brackets

  1. Attach the brackets to the wooden shelf using wood screws

2. Figure out where you want them hung and make sure they are level by using a level. Using your pencil, mark where the anchors/screws will go

3. Pre drill the holes for the wall anchors.

4. Place plastic wall anchors in the holes and use a hammer to tap them all of the way in.

5. Use a drill to hang/attach the brackets in the anchors

Ta da!! Now I have these two very unique and beautiful shelves that add so much character to my tiny bathroom.

I love these shelves! I love that they were destined for a burn pile and I gave them a new life! I love that they can hold so much pretty decor and make my bathroom feel so much more inviting!

I hope this inspires you to go out and repurpose something!

I’ll catch you all on the flip side with another series post about this tiny half bath!!

More Shelf Projects!

Adding shelves is one of the best things you can do for small spaces! We managed our overflowing supply of kid books by adding in-between the stud bookshelves and a Hallway Wall Transformation. I added a Towel Hook Shelf & Beadboard Wall to our kid’s old bathroom. I’ve repurposed Headboard Turned Shelf for my daughter’s room and built this DIY Shelf & Hook Board one for my boy’s room. We added shelves in our garage to store tons of bins and odds and ends! I transformed our entry way with these hooks and shelf and completely transformed our coat closet from totally unusable space to an area that could house a ton of stuff!! I even added extra storage and shelves to our laundry room. Guys, I think it’s safe to say, I LOVE SHELVING!!!

I thought you said these shelves were for storage? All I see is a place to put “decor.” That’s not storage space in my mind.

Curious about how wide was the area between thd cabinet and side wall? How long are shelves?
