Liberty Face Masks
It’s not nearly as novel sewing medical masks now than it was a year ago, but unfortunately we are still needing to wear them. So why not whip up a few pretty ones? I just made three beautiful Liberty face masks, and I adore them. They are light-weight, quick & easy to make, and made from three sweet floral prints by my new design crush – Liberty of London.

supplies:
- one piece of cotton fabric – 9″ x 14″
- two pieces of thin elastic – 6 1/2″ in length
- sewing machine
- iron
step 1 – prepare the fabric
Cut a piece of fabric 9″ x 14″. With right sides together, fold in half and stitch together as shown below.
Trim seam. Turn right side out and press. Next, turn the side edges under about 1 inch and press. Do this to both ends.
Fold two pleats into the mask, as shown below. Pin in place. Measure the height of each side to make sure they are even. Press.
Take a piece of elastic and place the ends inside the side of the mask at the top and bottom, as shown below. Pin in place. Do this for both ends.
While holding the elastic and pleats firmly in place, stitch the side seam. Then stitch over the same seam once more for extra durability. Repeat this process for the other side. Remember, these Liberty face masks are not official medical masks but nonetheless great options for those of you social distancing in your everyday lives. Stay safe, but do it in style!

Why is Hometalk featuring this in 2022 when “experts” are finally admitting cloth masks were never effective in the first place regardless of filters, wires or however many layers. These are lovely, Maker. It’s Hometalk that needs to get with the program.
