D.I.Y. Painted Feather Art

I like the ideas of painting white fake feather. With Spring approaching underway, it seems like a perfect time to do it. I originally thought feather is just for clothing decorations, but it occurred to me that they would look great on wood or canvas. It’s a great activity to do outside on a sunny day or inside if it’s raining. Once you start painting its very addicting. So dress up your bedroom without breaking the bank. Here is my tutorial for creating an eye-catching painted feather art.

STEP 1: What You Need

  • Fake Feathers

  • Acrylic Paint

  • Artist Brushes

  • Wood Plank

  • Glue Gun

  • Picture Hanger

 STEP 2: Design & Paint

To create my designs for the feathers I practiced on some odd feathers that came in the bag. I purchased the feathers at Micheals. These feather had gold tips so I thought that was an added touch. 1/ Start by painting the feathers all in one color. 2/ Then with an artist loft brush paint some colorful brush strokes in any colors you like. I primarily used turquoise, purple, green and white. 3/ After each stroke let dry for a few minutes before applying the next color. Finish with the white color. This will make everything pop. Design whatever you like!

STEP 3: Glue & Hang The Wall Art

Before you glue the feathers on the wood plank, purchase a little picture hanger to hammer on the back on the wood. Center it and a light hammer the hanger. Now you are ready to glue each feather evenly on the wood. Make sure they are a few inches apart between feathers. Now hammer a nail on the wall and hang your wall art. It’s that easy.

If you are planning on making this painted project. You can make the dimensions like mine which is by 32 by 10 or you can create your own size. I had the wood in my garage, but you can find wood planks at your local hardware store. Just ask them to cut it the size you would like. If you have any other question don’t hesitate to leave me a comment. This project was featured in March 2017 J-14 Teen Magazine.

The feathers look great... go one step further and paint each raised square on the drawers of the chest turquoise. Spray paint the ring drawer pulls gold. It would really pop and show off the feathers or visa-a versa
