Puppy Peepee Stain Removal
My sweet little grand-dog was over for a visit. She is a super cute French bulldog who is considered a senior now that she is over 8 years old. When she was a puppy she was pee pad trained as my daughter lived in a high rise in the city. This initial training does have her use area rugs as her pee spot of choice when needed :( This is what happened at last visit and how I removed the smell and stain from a dried area.

I found a couple posts on Pinterest suggesting these products
- pure white vinegar - I have mine in a spray bottle in my cleaning supplies
- baking soda
- plate to cover
She knows I was not pleased with her choice of spots - the pee was not soaked up as not noticed until dried ( shown just below products) but if you can soak it up with paper towels to start that will help.
Spray the stained area thoroughly with vinegar. You dont want it sopping wet to the back side seeing it could be on carpet you cant lift like this. I put newspaper underneath just incase there was excess on the hardwood.
Sprinkle the wet rug liberally with baking soda. It will bubble at the chemical reaction, this is good.
The sites suggested covering with a plate so people and dogs do not step in it while drying. Allow to dry naturally now up to 2-3 days.
TIP- I learned that this plate was NOT the best idea as it seemed to trap the moisture and not allow it to dry easily so I removed it after the first day and set a marker beside the spot to remind folks.
Once it was dry, the powdered mixture was vacuumed up and the spot was gone along with the smell.

Baking soda is good for drying and deodorizing the spot. Vinegar dilutes and disinfects the stain. But together they are weaker. Think about it: vinegar (acetic acid) is an acid while baking soda (bicarbonate) is a base. That bubbling reaction is them cancelling each other out, not “stain fighting”. It won’t hurt but you’re better off using either one with plain water for better results.
