Are accent walls going out if style? I think not and even if they were, I say do what makes your soul happy! Who says we have to fit into a mold.

So, prior to this pandemic, I was going into the office to work at least 4 times a week and traveling at times twice a month. Then, bammm the pandemic hit us all and I was forced to work from home. I brought my PC home and worked from my dining room table. A dining room table is not the best ergonomic space to work from when you’re on a computer several hours a day. So, I decided to convert a guest room into a home office.

I knew I wanted a gallery wall to display photos of my grandies but I wanted something different. I love trim molding and have seen many wainscoting accents walls so I decided to use trim and learn how to paint trim to create a space for my gallery wall. I love how it turned out! For the color, I used Benjamin Moore Hale Navy because it was a perfect shade of a moody blue I was looking for.

It was my first time learning how to use a handsaw and how to cut 45° angles, yikes I was initially scared. After the first couple of cuts, it was easy and I felt more comfortable. A few important tips are to measure correctly and ensure your 45° angles are cut clean. After nailing the trim, I applied caulking around the edges and on any gaps I had on the trim. After allowing it to dry, I painted the wall and voila it was ready. The paint couldn’t dry fast enough for me to hang the photos of my grandies. I really love how it turned out. I hope you do as well and I hope this inspires you to create your own accent wall.

The total cost of this project didn’t include the cost of the handsaw or the nail gun, I already had those. It only includes the cost of the trim, paint and caulking.

Thank you for stopping by.

Alright, let’s get this project going!

Trim Accent Wall

Best peel and stick wall trim!

Upgrade your walls quickly with this peel and stick wall trim that Amazon reviewers swear by!

Step 1: The trim

Step 1: Measure your space and pick a trim. I decided to go to Lowe’s hardware store to pick my trim. They had a great selection.

Step 2: Measure

Step 2: Measure the space you plan on adhering the trim to. I measured 12.5 inches from the end of the wall at both sides of the wall. I wanted to create 2 squares on the wall where the photos would be hung.

Step 3: Cutting the 45° angles

Step 3: Obtain accurate measurements to ensure your angles meet. When cutting and measuring, measure from the tip of the 45° angles. Mine we 44 inches from tip to tip. Since I wanted a square, I cut 4 pieces of trim for each square and a total of 8 pieces for my 2 squares.

Step 4: Adhering the trim to the wall

Step 4: Next, adhere your trim to the wall. I used a nail gun but you can use a glue if you prefer not to use a nail gun. I nailed 1 trim first and then joined the consecutive trims to meet at the angle of the previous trim to form a square. I hope that makes sense.

Step 5: The caulking

Step 5: Caulk any gaps on your trim. I caulked the entire edges and any gaps on the corners. Allow to dry according to manufacture instructions.

Step 6: The paint

Step 6: Paint the trim, wall and allow to dry according to manufacture instructions. I wanted the entire trim and wall one color. I applied two coats.

The Accent Gallery Wall 💙

This was an easy to medium difficulty project if you haven’t used a handsaw or cut 45° angles. After learning hold to cut the angles, it did not take a very long to complete. I love how it turned out and I really love the color!

You did a beautiful job and all by yourself to boot . I wonder if one took the measurements to Home Depot if they would cut the trim for you ? Enjoy, it's a lovely room.
