Easter is around the corner and I don’t know about you but boy do I need to celebrate. Something, ANYTHING. There’s such a long and dreary stretch after the joy of end-of-year celebrations, Easter and the arrival of spring feel like a lifesaver.

To celebrate, I’m sharing these easy Easter egg edible planters to add to your spring tablescape!

To start off, make sure the eggshells are clean. Boil them in water for a few minutes. Don’t skip this step!! Uncooked eggs and eggshells can be contaminated by salmonella. Bringing the eggshells to a boil will kill off any bacteria.

Paint your eggshells in light pastel shades that suit your spring tablescape. If you intend to eat the microgreens, choose a food-safe coloring to dye the eggshells rather than paint!

Once the paint on your eggshells is dry, place the eggs back in their cardboard box. Fill your eggshells with potting soil and moisten the soil with water. It should be wet but not completely soggy.

Then, open your seed packet and sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil.

Leave your seeds to grow in a warm place, near a sunny window. They should sprout fast, although the actual time depends on what type of seed you’re sowing.

Once your microgreens are ready, cut as many lengths of metal wire as you have eggs. Loosely coil the wire to shape a stand for each egg.

And voila! Your microgreen Easter eggs are ready to set on the table. As a bonus, you could write the name or initials of your guests on each egg to use as an edible place setting!

These easter egg planters are not only a pretty addition to your spring tablescape, but they’re also delicious!! Place the easter egg planters next to each plate with a pair of scissors so that everyone can sprinkle healthy sprouts on their food!
