DIY Spring Wreath From Pipe Cleaners

It’s easy to make a DIY spring wreath using fun and colorful pipe cleaners.

When I saw these $2 pipe cleaner packs at the dollar store before Easter I couldn’t resist. There were 150 in each pack; 25 of each color.

Look at those colors!

The only other thing you need is a wreath frame of some kind. I’m using a 12 inch round thrifted $1 metal wreath frame from my crafting stash.

I started by cutting the 12 inch pipe cleaners in half.

To make it quicker, I just grabbed a bunch at a time, folded them over, and cut.

Easy peasy!

Then I gathered my pipe cleaners into piles by color.

Making this wreath is sooooo easy. All you do is wrap the pipe cleaners around the frame.

That’s it.

I’m doing the colors in order of pink, green, purple, yellow, white, and blue…. just because I really wanted to see what an entire wreath would look like with the colors all mixed.

But you could do color blocks, use only two colors, a different color for each wreath frame section.

There are so many possibilities for so many different looks.

I love the feel of pipe cleaners. They’re so tactile.

Here’s what my pipe cleaner wreath looks like with the one section done.

The only thing to make sure of is that you use enough pipe cleaners so the frame isn’t visible between them.

I wrapped white pipe cleaners around the metal joints that join the metal sections of the wreath frame to make them disappear.

And then I kept on going, this time working on the inside section of the wreath frame.

And here it is with the two sections done.

To do the outside section I pushed the other two sections inwards to get them out of the way.

And then I continued to wrap my pipe cleaners, pink, green, purple, yellow, white and blue.

Until I was done.

Then I played and poufed the pipe cleaners until I like the way they looked.

And here it is, hanging on the inside of our kitchen door…. which is the door we always use.

This is one of the easiest wreaths I’ve ever made. It took me about two hours, and I used about 200 twelve inch pipe cleaners. And it could easily be taken apart and the pipe cleaners used in another project some day.

There are so many colorful possibilities with this wreath, and it would be a great project to do with kids, or grandkids.

Honestly, I haven’t had this much fun with pipe cleaners since I was a kid myself.

How about making different wreaths for different holidays or seasons by using specific colored pipe cleaners? The one made here looks cheerful for spring and summer, but maybe browns and oranges for the fall, reds and greens for Christmas time. Great project for the older kids!

The more I looked at the last picture the more I liked the look. I think I would like this in white PCs too. All in ones esthetic. It almost reminds me of a Zinnia or a Spider Mum. Thank you for sharing your project. :)
