Kitchen Makeover Bistro Style

Recaptured Charm

This very budget friendly kitchen was made over almost entirely by ourselves. Cupboards were painted and glazed, hood range was made from scratch and the island was put together from cupboards from Home Depot. The big splurge was the granite countertop. The little awning adds that Bistro Charm.
Kitchen awning over sink
I had this kitchen awning made for me. I drew out a picture of what I wanted, picked up some fabric and gave the dimensions to someone who sews, and viola. She made it beautiful.
plain MDF cuboards were primed, painted and glazed
I hired a company with a CNC machine to cut some MDF cupboards for me. I then sanded, prined, sanded, painted, sanded again, painted again and finally finshed the them with a spray varnish.
Black island was created with kitchen cupboards from Home Depot. More MDF was used with the same design as the door profiles to enclose the back. Painted black for a nice contrast.
My husband made this island from stock cupboards we bought from Home Depot. He put them together and finished the other sides with mdf to match the doors. Put together this way was very inexpensive compared to ordering a custom made island.
Kitchen awning and bronze faucet
Bronze fixtures show beautifully against the beadboard backsplash and the granite countertop as well as match the bronze cabinet hardware.
Range hood cover was made from MDF, beadboard and lots of trim
My husaband also made this range hood cover. We ordered the hood itself and he built the box around it to match the kitchen and the backsplash.

I'm normally not a fan of painted cabinets, but this is beautiful. Love the color scheme and especially love the range hood. Great job.
