Cleaning Houseplants
This is a great time of year to take your houseplants outside for a bath. Insect and mite populations can sometimes build unnoticed, but not to worry. Take houseplants outside and gently hose them off. This will not only wash away harmful pests, but will remove dust from the leaf surfaces and leave plant pores cleaner and able to breathe easier.
If you don't want to hose them off, put an old cotton sock on each hand, dampen, then slide the leaves between your palms.
Do not use anything else (mayonnaise, plant shine products, etc). They do more harm than good.

my plant I have had was my moms..had it since she died almost 9 years ago..it was her plant that she got when my step dad died about 18 years ago..its full of little nats or something..so I sprayed with bug spray..now its turning black and I am so upest

Robin, is that plant an AF? You can select the best one or two leaves from it, stick them into moist potting mix...I use half and half peat moss and potting soil..[as soon as that soil looks dry, water so that it drains from the bottom of the container, and use all day kitchen task lighting on the leaves] and make new plants! I know how you must feel. My oldest plant is a generic palm plant my Mom had while I was in high school. She has passed, I am 52, that plant is 37 years old !! the plant looks like hell, but reminds me of her every day! Also have plants from when my 3 kids were babies, now they are all in their 20's. What kind of plant is it, maybe we can help you save it or propagate a baby from it !
