Mud Room Reinvented

This family with young twin boys had a laundry room off the garage entrance, with just enough space for a small mud sink and a refrigerator. The room doubled as a drop-off zone, and backpacks and coats were crowded into the corner or ended up on the floor. The owners wanted a larger and more functional mud room to include a designated drop-off zone, counters for folding laundry, and storage cabinets for home goods.

To create the new space, the wall between the existing laundry room and an underutilized spare bedroom was removed. New Alder cubbies and bench provide storage for shoes, coats, and bags. The refrigerator, sink, and washer/dryer are lined up along the opposite wall, with overhead storage found in the espresso stained cabinetry. A new apron sink with a subway tile backsplash allows for easy clean up and transitions to marble folding counter above the washer and dryer.
Additional features of the room include a large storage closet, wider doorways, and improved lighting. A new 3-panel glass door to the backyard lets in natural light.
Now this busy family can enter their home and easily unpack the day in their new mud room, built to accommodate their needs.
