Upcycled Iron Stove Base

I bought this cool iron stove base at an auction for less than $20. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it but I though it was "cool" so home it came with me! About a year later (yes, I know that's a long time) I had a great idea that my hubby helped me with. We turned it into a planter! We had some leftover treated pine that my hubby made into a box with a lip so it just dropped down into the base.
The photo above is what we started with and photo below is how it turned out!
I scraped any flaking paint off of the stove base and panted it with Rustoleum's Aged Copper spray paint. The boards I stained with a solid deck stain from Benjamin Moore I had leftover from our last house. It is a very sophisticated color palette I think.
I just placed a planter I had inside to demonstrate how pretty it could be as a planter.
I also think it would be great by the door to hold shoes too! I don't know how may stove bases there are out there, but maybe next time you see one you might think about bringing it home too!
