Country Kitchen Details

For me, it's all the little, detail touches that make a room special and noteworthy!
Not valuable things, but interesting pieces of one's life and loves, added with no real purpose, but just because it makes you happy. That is what I consider when I style a vignette in my home.
This past week, I had guests for dinner, so I cut some hydrangeas from the garden, and added the last few roses still blooming to a metal sap bucket.
Because most of my china is stored in this open shelving, it is easy to put together a tables cape, with everything in plain view.
Green majolica and vintage milk glass.
I truly believe that when your collectibles are hidden behind closed doors, they become forgotten. So why not display their beauty and function?
A coffee bar, in one corner of my kitchen is used every day.
As is this little vintage tea cart.
Here, you can see it decorated for the holidays, with hellebores, greens and tiny Christmas dolls and ornaments.
I like to add festive touches wherever I can in my kitchen. Since I spend a bit of time in this area, why not make it pretty!
Vintage sugar shaker.
I found this very old French cookbook recently, and have it on my kitchen island, protected by a glass cloche. A treasured detail.
I much prefer vintage accessories, rather than new ones. I like to think they have a storied past, a history, and nothing can beat the patina you find in vintage treasures. Chips and scrapes just add character.
The Italian Capodimonte chandelier adds beautiful character and interest to my kitchen eating area in our small conservatory. Although it is a fine, delicate piece, it brings interest and a touch of elegance to my country kitchen.
Here it shines soft light on a garden cherub I hung last Christmas.
Incorporating texture from several objects that are totally different in a vignette always seems to work for me, here it is baskets, moss, greenery and china.
My favourite motto for decorating is, study the classics, make your own rules! Happy decorating! N.xo
